Mr. Freeze, the Philippine ice manufacturer, is on the cover of Top News Asia’s October 2026 issue, which marks the company’s 20th year in business. Founder and CEO Mr. Gerald “Gerry” Santos, known as the “Ice King,” appears with the next generation of the company’s leadership.
To mark the feature, Top News Asia held a magazine signing at the National Book Store SM North EDSA branch.
Mr. Freeze began in a rented apartment with a borrowed truck. It now operates a nationwide network of strategically located manufacturing plants and supplies ice to homes and businesses across the country.
A Leadership Transition
After years of personally running the company’s day-to-day operations, Mr. Santos is gradually passing responsibility to his children. In his remarks at the event, he thanked the company’s partners, friends, family, and employees.“Mr. Freeze grew with the business partners and we are still growing with them,” said Mr. Santos.
Growing with Structure and Technology
Philip “Iggy” Santos, President of Mr. Freeze, said the company has expanded significantly while keeping its roots.“Today, we’ve grown into a much larger organization, with more plants, more employees, and a more structured and professional approach. We are continuously improving how we operate, embracing new technologies, and developing our people to support the growth,” said Mr. Philip Santos.
Measuring Success by People
Janina Santos-Ortico, Chief Financial Officer and Head of Administration, said the company measures success by the number of families it supports, not by sales or the number of plants.“This year, we have just reached our 20th year in the business. For me, every year is considered a milestone because every year we employ more people, allowing us to support more families,” said Ms. Santos-Ortico.
